Bondman, Apostle, Separated
February 5, 2007 at 8:00 am | In Awake My Heart | 2 CommentsPaul, a bondman of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the Gospel of God. ~ Romans 1:1
This simple sentence from scripture tells so much with regard to who we are to be. As we have learned from the first two days, we are to be bondsmen and we are to be apostles. But we also must be, as was Paul, separated.
This matter of separateness has two sides to it – the divine and the human. From his very birth, Paul was divinely separated for a special ministry. (Gal. 1:15) Later, his conversion actualised [sic] this in his life (Acts 26:15-19). Was this exclusively peculiar to Paul? No. As human beings you and I are equally dear to God as Paul
On the human side, we are to be self-separated from all that is sinful, worldly, unworthy, and doubtful. Yet, we are also to be separated to the Lord’s will and use. Baxter posits that this set-apartedness is sanctification and it is what allows us to become vessels of the Lord.
Today, my prayer for you and I is that we will self-separate the urge to conform to the ways of the world so we can become vessels of the Lord.
