A Token and a Type

I do set my bo in the cloud. ~ Genesis 9:13

Lo, the Rainbow! The rainbow is “A token of the covenant between Me and the earth.” It betokens the kindness of God, the Severity of God, the goodness of God . . . the faithfulness of God.

Further, the rainbow parallels the Cross as it represents the permanent amid the transient. “The dark cloud blots out the sun! – there can be no rainbow unless the sun still shines!

Think back to the appearance of a rainbow: it is a perfect light prism that refracts a sevenfold differentiation – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. So in the Cross of Christ, do we receive a sevenfold refraction of truth?

God is Light. And all in one, we see the infinite righteousness omnipotence, truth, immutability, holiness, wisdom and love of God.

And lastly, the rainbow speaks to of the cross as the great sign of mercy after judgment.

Ezekiel saw that rainbow above and beyond the judgments which were falling on his nation (Ezekiel 1:28). John saw it, too, above and beyond all the judgments which are yet to strike our earth. (Revelations 4:3).

Today, my prayer for you and I, is that we too will see that rainbow.
