And the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. ~ Job 42:10
Note: This devotion is from September 3
Observe the real factor in Job’s praying which ended his captivity. ‘The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends.’ That is immensely meaningful: It was not when Job prayed for himself that his liberation came, though that might have seemed the normal think; but when he prayed for others! In this let us see at once the reflexive power of prayer. One of the high values of prayer is that when I earnestly pray for others, my intercession not only brings blessing to them, it boomerangs back in blessing upon myself. I do not mean merely a therapeutic soothing reaction on nerves, organism, and mind, though that is usually included. Prayer for others has a liberating reflex spiritually upon ourselves. If we spent more time in intercession we should discover that our prayers for others were opening the gates of freedom from many a bondage in our own lives.
Today, I pray for you and you only.
