Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion. ~ II Samuel 5:7

Note: This devotion is from September 4

David’s conquest of Zion presents a nice illustration of an Old Testament event that presents New Testament truths. For example, his conquest of Zion.

David had been accepted by all of Israel as king. Yet, the place he sought as his throne was a stronghold of Jebusites whom the men of Israel had never been able to unseat. Its natural defenses were considered impregnable, yet “Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion.”

Now, the parallel:

You and I have made Jesus our King, just as David was made king of Israel.

So often in life, we hang onto many things and they become our rulers. We hold onto them so tightly and refuse to let go that they almost blacken our hearts and displace our souls from truth.

But, nevertheless, with Jesus, that stronghold can be overcome.

Today, I pray that you and I will allow Jesus to capture our hearts and be our King.
